My team enhanced an SAP Spartacus e-commerce platform for a client transitioning from a traditional CMS. While Spartacus is strong in transactional e-commerce, it lacked flexibility for editorial content needs. To bridge this gap, we designed a custom, responsive Article component that empowered content editors to publish engaging, media-rich articles within the e-commerce framework, aligning with brand storytelling needs and boosting editorial capabilities.
After identifying the limitations of Spartacus for content-rich media, we conducted interviews with the editorial team to clarify layout preferences and styling needs. Based on these insights, we developed a flexible Article component, incorporating options for various text and image configurations and responsive, mobile-friendly design. Our team then moved through design, development, and extensive usability testing, with editorial feedback guiding each iteration.

Project Outcomes

This custom component allowed editors to manage dynamic, visually engaging content without needing developer support, increasing time-on-page and editorial engagement. Through collaboration and a user-centered approach, we successfully merged e-commerce and content functionalities within Spartacus, setting a foundation for future growth in editorial capabilities.
