Goal

Design System Optimization & Feature Design

Challenge

Users struggled to get a clear overview of linear broadcasts and program management in the existing tools, and the design system was inconsistent. My challenge was to improve usability and scale the system while keeping workflows intact and onboarding quickly into a complex, ongoing project.

Outcome

The project resulted in a user-friendly feature design, developed and refined through regular feedback from key users. In parallel, I restructured the design system by improving token logic and reorganizing the component hierarchy to support better scalability. I also created developer-friendly Figma components with clear naming conventions and consistent states, which helped streamline collaboration between design and development. Clear documentation further supported handoff and future maintenance.

Design process

  • User Interviews -
I regularly met with key users to understand their workflows, needs, and frustrations. These insights shaped both the new feature and how components should behave.
  • Feature Design -
I translated user feedback into wireframes and final UI, iterating quickly with stakeholders and developers to ensure feasibility and clarity.
  • Design System Audit -
I reviewed the existing system and identified gaps in consistency — especially in spacing, colors, and naming logic.
  • Component & Token Refactor -
I created reusable components with clean states and logic, aligned with dev needs. I also restructured Figma variables (e.g. spacing, color, typography) for clarity and scalability.
  • Documentation & Handoff
- I documented all updates and created onboarding notes to help other designers and developers use the new system more effectively.

Reflections & Learnings

  • Even in a short engagement, working closely with users added valuable direction and clarity.
  • Joining an existing team mid-project required listening, adapting fast, and balancing immediate delivery with longer-term improvements.
  • Contributing to structure and scalability — not just features — is a key part of design work.
